Meditation: The Game Changer

Mediation is my game changer…
I might not always win but it definitely teaches me to be great sportsman! Life is a fun and challenging game that we get to go play everyday and as such requires an opponent. Mindful engagement and embodied presence as a practice for moving through life really does improve the quality of experience, aka eye on the ball.
The humbling thing about it is that it is so easy to avoid, to hit the snooze again, to get caught up in the busy or more important things to do and to put it off for tomorrow. That excuse or reason for not meditating is in itself just resistance. And resistance is the opponent that comes with playing a game and will empower our growth if we are willing to show up to practice. How we do one thing is how we do everything and if every time we come up against resistance we flee back to comfort or hide out in easy than we miss out on the opportunities for something different than we planned, for magic to be felt and new interactions to be enlightening.
Think about the most amazing moments of your life, when you were deeply fulfilled. I bet they were the product of two things 1) Staring resistance in the face and learning it actually isn’t that intimidating, so instead of falling for it, you walk by it fiercely determined to learn something new or relearn something old with a new perspective. 2) Fulfillment doesn’t come scheduled in and is muddied with expectations and assumptions… it snuck up on you, hugged you in a championship win, an embrace to celebrate in all the goodness of something you earned from showing up even when it scared the crap out of you.
So next time you decide to get up and meditate because you know how great it sets the tone for your day, see that the only thing between you and achieving your win is your necessary opponent resistance, who is there to give you the satisfaction of overcoming, so on the other side you are so fulfilled in your deepest parts that nobody can persuade you to play for the other team. Commit to you. It’s your day to be lived… so why not start by getting to know the same resistance that holds you back in other aspects of the game of life.
